Titanium Robotics Fires at the 4th!

MARCHING 4th: San Marino High School’s Titanium Robotics team circles Lacy Park as part of the Rotary Club of San Marino’s annual 4th of July Parade held last Wednesday afternoon.

Titanium Robotics was invited to participate in the city of San Marino’s Fourth of July parade. For the event, the team created the design of a shirt they were going to be shooting from their robot t-shirt cannon, Ti[rone]. Then, Mr. Bob Houston, Ms. Debbie Schwartz, and the Rotary Club of San Marino were generous enough to pay for the production of 150 of those shirts. In the days leading up to the parade, the team practiced with and adjusted their robot to make sure it would neither overshoot nor undershoot.

On Wednesday, July 4, twenty members of Titanium Robotics took part in the parade, each having a specific role so that the t-shirt cannon could be pressurized, loaded, and shot three times per city block. The students launched the customized shirts to the waving crowds lining Monterey Road and Lacy Park.

Business Vice President Maddie Haddad felt that the event was gratifying, explaining that “it was great to see how many people in the community support our efforts as a robotics team.” Afterward, Titanium Robotics and their robot were brought onto the stage in the middle of Lacy Park, and the team shot their remaining shirts to the audience.

“The Fourth of July Celebration was a success for the team: the robot ran smoothly and people were delighted by the shirts they received. I’m glad that the work everyone put in has come to fruition,” commented Business President Kimia Hassibi.
