BETTY RAMONA BURGE
June 3, 1928 – October 5, 2018

Betty Ramona Burge, a resident of San Marino for over 50 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 5, 2018. Betty was born June 3, 1928 in Magna, Utah, the first daughter of Eleanor and James Rosino. She moved to California with her parents and sister, Yvonne, in 1935 and graduated from Alhambra High School in 1945. Betty met her future husband, William Blackshear (Bill) Burge, while they worked together at the Gas Company. She and Bill were married for 61 years until his death in 2013.

Betty was happiest spending time with her large family. She could be found all over Southern California and elsewhere watching her grandchildren’s athletic and school events, attending their graduations, participating in their weddings and welcoming her great grandchildren. She also enjoyed travelling the world with Bill, including visits to Europe, Australia, China and Russia. While not with her family, Betty found time to become an avid golfer and talented bowler. She was very accomplished at petit point embroidery and designed and fabricated many beautiful items. Most treasured are the Christmas stockings she made for all her grandchildren and most of her great grandchildren, 24 in all.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, husband, Bill, and sister, Yvonne. She is survived by her children Jim Burge (Julie) of Montecito; Jeri Wright (Tim) of San Marino; and Steve Burge (Laura) of San Marino; 10 grandchildren – Briton Burge (Ana) of Dallas, James Burge (Megan) of Santa Barbara, Andrew Burge (Caitie) of San Francisco, Geoff Wright of Hermosa Beach, William Burge (Alyssa) of Pasadena, David Burge of Santa Barbara, Henry Burge (Harper) of Pasadena, Libby Wright of San Gabriel, Diana Burge Sala (Nick) of South Pasadena, and Steven Wright (Jill) of San Gabriel; and 14 great grandchildren, with another one on the way. A memorial service was held on October 10 at Holy Family Catholic Church with interment at San Gabriel Cemetery.

The family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in Betty’s memory.
