Robotics Team Throws In For Homecoming

Members of San Marino High School’s Robotics Team rode in the Homecoming Parade and fired t-shirts from [Ti]Rone.
San Marino High School celebrated Homecoming last month with a week filled with festivities focused around the annual Homecoming football game. Titanium Robotics traditionally plays a part in both the homecoming parade and game.

Each year, San Marino High School celebrates Homecoming with a parade down Huntington Drive, with floats occupied by students and faculty tossing candy to excited passersby. Titanium Robotics also had a float that was driven by team mentor Mr. Robert French. The team was able to greet onlookers and use its popular t-shirt cannon [Ti]Rone to fire shirts—some of which were provided by the San Marino Police Department to spread awareness of breast cancer.

Following the parade, the team immediately prepared to operate the cannon for the highly anticipated homecoming game versus rivals South Pasadena. The Titan football team dominated South Pasadena by a final score of 50-0, providing Titanium Robotics with ample opportunities for shooting celebratory t-shirts, confetti, and even hot dogs. This was only possible through the hard work and dedication of many team members in the weeks prior to homecoming. Students decorated the float with bunting, streamers, and balloons while others spent time folding t-shirts so that they would be ready to fire when the time came. Events Coordinator Justin Jang put it best, stating that “the homecoming parade is a great way to reach out to younger audiences and encourage them to be involved in STEAM.”

Coming up, Titanium Robotics will be supporting breast cancer awareness for the month of October with special pink T-Shirts that the team will be shooting at football games. Also look out for Girls’ Night Out, an event meant to celebrate women in STEAM by having an all-female staff operating the t-shirt cannon on October 26 at Monrovia. Beach Blitz is also coming up October 13-14, so anticipate heavy preparation as the team prepares for its annual off-season competition for newcomers and veterans alike to acclimate to a competitive environment.
