Carver Principal Lin Wins TC Board Seat

Dr. Michael Lin

Dr. Michael Lin, principal of San Marino’s Carver Elementary School, was chosen for one of two open seats on the Temple City School District’s Governing Board at Tuesday’s election. Lin was the leading vote-getter among seven candidates, garnering 2,897 votes, or 34% of those cast—almost double that of his nearest opponent.

Lin is a resident of Temple City and served as Principal of La Rosa Elementary School from 2010-14. Lin also worked at the district in Educational Services as a Curriculum Coordinator and for four years was a member of the Temple City Schools Foundation. Lin received the TCUSD’s PTA Honorary Service Award in 2014.

“I felt this was part of my civic duty,” said Lin. “I considered running three years ago, but was busy working on my doctorate. I felt this was the right time.”

Lin said that a recent school board recall and the ouster of a superintendent motivated him to throw his hat in the ring.

“I think people wanted change,” Lin told The Tribune.

Lin also said he is “humbled” by the outpouring of support that led to his leading total.
“I had a lot of supporters, out there,” said Lin, who indicated that residents were approaching him asking for campaign literature and yard signs. “I’m going to run the full distance.”
