While executing a search warrant on the car that was driven by former San Marino resident John Gabriel, San Marino Police officers have found what they believe to be black tar heroin and possibly “several other illegal drugs in powder and liquid form,” according to San Marino Police Chief John Incontro, who this afternoon was at what became a crime scene during an incident last night and this morning in the 2100 block of Sherwood Road in San Marino.

Gabriel, who was a candidate for a seat on the San Marino school board at the November 2018 election, was arrested early this morning on charges of making criminal threats, child endangerment and possessing an unregistered firearm after he returned uninvited to the home of his estranged wife and threatened her and family members with a semi-automatic Glock gun.
Gabriel, who resides in San Gabriel, refused to surrender and was eventually subdued by a K-9 unit at approximately 3:00 a.m. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Bail was set this morning at $125,000.
But when police continued investigating the crime scene and received a search warrant for the white SUV that Gabriel drove to his former residence, officers found a large amount of cash, the drugs and what Incontro called “precursors,” components needed to create the illegal drugs.
Gabriel was out on bail after being arrested last week for possession of Fentanyl, PCP, crystal meth and “maybe some other things,” according to Incontro.
A six-year veteran of the United States Army, Gabriel was one of seven candidates at the November 2018 San Marino school board election, but was not successful in winning a seat. Gabriel and his ex-wife have three pre-teen children.
Members of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Lab Squad arrived on the scene this afternoon at approximately 3:00 p.m. to attempt to identify the substances.
