Suspect Arrested in Home Burglary

A man arrested last week on suspicion of burglarizing a San Marino home where an occupant had been asleep has been released on bond and awaits arraignment, city police said.
Officers from the San Marino Police Department arrested the 34-year-old Los Angeles man at his home on Thursday, Dec. 12, after identifying him as the suspect in the West Drive incident. He is expected to be charged with one count of burglary, according to the SMPD, and is not believed to be linked to other such alleged thefts at this time.
“It seems like it’s an isolated incident,” Sgt. Candice Torres said.
According to police, one of the home’s occupants awoke about 1:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, to discover that the intruder was in the residence. The suspect told the woman that the landlord had sent him to make a repair to the bathtub, but she said she locked herself in the bathroom because she remained suspicious of him.
The suspect eventually left the home through a back door, the victim told police. When her roommate returned home, they discovered numerous electronic items were missing. Police eventually identified the suspect and searched his home, arresting him after finding the stolen items there, the SMPD said.
Torres added that the suspect seems to have entered the San Marino home through an unlocked door.
“That just kind of reminds everybody to make sure they’re locking their doors and windows and setting their alarms,” she added.
The suspect’s only prior conviction is for driving under the influence, Torres said.
