SMHS Club Donates Hospital Gear

International Youth Tobacco Control, a San Marino High School on-campus club, recently donated personal protective equipment to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, USC Keck Hospital, and the Norris Cancer Hospital. The supplies included 315 CDC-approved N95 respirators, 3,850 FDA-approved surgical masks, 1,300 examination gloves, 240 fluid-resistant isolation gowns, 20 protective coveralls, and 30 protective goggles. The supplies came from parents and IYTC members.
“When the doctors and frontline residents saw our supplies, they kept on saying ‘thank you,’” said Lisa Lu, the club president. “Not once or twice, but many times. I can sense how much any donation means to them, so I really want to encourage the community to help out.”
The supplies were presented to Dr. Anto Hindoyan, a San Marino native, who is on staff at USC Keck Hospital.
“On behalf of USC and the young doctors who are on the front lines sacrificing for those who have fallen ill due to this devastating illness, I want to personally express my deepest gratitude to the International Youth Tobacco Control organization, and especially to Lisa Lu, for their overwhelming generosity,” Dr. Hindoyan said. “Your philanthropy and kindness during this dark hour speaks volumes about your selflessness and care for your fellow man. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
International Youth Tobacco Control is a registered non-profit organization comprised of 200 students in seven countries working to promote public health. The organization was founded by Lisa Lu, a senior at San Marino High School.
