Huntington Library Presents Gifts to First Responders

The Huntington Library recently donated more than 105 vegetable plants to San Marino police officers, firefighters and other essential city workers as a gesture of thanks for their tireless support during the COVID-19 crisis.
The plants had been earmarked to be sold at the annual Spring Plant Sale — a popular fundraiser at the Huntington — but with the event’s cancellation due to the county stay-at-home order, the institution is delighted that the plants can be enjoyed by first responders and other essential staff in the community.
Louise Guerin, nursery and plant sales manager at the Huntington, was instrumental in coordinating plant growth from seed as part of the institution’s plant propagation program. The 105 plants include 15 varieties of heirloom and hybrid tomatoes and seven varieties of sweet and hot peppers that are ready to be nurtured in the backyard gardens of all of the city’s first responders and essential staff.
