San Marino’s Devon Jack was named to the spring Ivy League academic team. Jack wrapped up her career at Brown ranked 15th overall in combined wins for the school.

Devon Jack, a former San Marino High School Titan who graduated in May from Brown University, was selected for the 2020 spring semester Academic All-Ivy squad. Jack was one of four female tennis players in the Ivy League chosen for the honor.
She graduated from Brown with a cumulative GPA of 3.88 and finished her career 16th all-time at the university in singles wins, 17th all-time in doubles wins, and 15th overall in combined wins.
“I am so grateful for this incredible award and for my time at Brown,” Jack told The Tribune. “It was heartbreaking to have our season cut short due to the pandemic, but my time as a tennis player at Brown has been so special. This year was especially amazing because, even though I was the only senior, I felt like my team was the closest. We were best friends and a close family and every practice and match that we played was for each other. Our coaches, Lucie Schmidhauser (head) and Stephanie Kusano Wallace (assistant), held us to the highest standard, and our hard work and dedication showed in everything we did.
“I had the most fun and enjoyed every moment playing this year and I am so honored to receive the Academic All-Ivy honors.”
A psychology major, Devon will begin work in consulting for Pricewaterhouse Coopers in New York City in January.
During her freshman year at Brown, Jack and her doubles partner, Annette Goulak, won the United States Tennis Association National Open Hard Court championship at the Balboa Tennis Club. In 2016, she received the SCTA Evelyn Housemann Lifetime Sportsmanship Award. It’s the highest award given by the Southern California Tennis Association for displaying “excellence on the court, honesty, integrity, exemplary conduct and sportsmanship throughout their junior tennis career.” She also received the 2015 SCTA Sportsmanship Award for Girls 18 & Under and the 2014 SCTA Sportsmanship Award for Girls 16 & Under.
In juniors tennis, Jack won numerous doubles and singles tournaments on a national level in Oklahoma and Arizona, as well as top regional tournaments, including Southern California Sectionals, Ojai, Mary Bryner, Fullerton, Long Beach, Esme Pearson, J.P. Yamasaki, Anaheim, Irvine, and Ramada tournaments.
At SMHS, Jack was a two-time national high school All-American, the 2016 all-area player of the year and one of six ABC News/Toyota Southern California Scholar Athlete of the Year finalists, and she also led the Titans to consecutive CIF championships. She was also a two-time Rio Hondo League singles champion following her junior and senior seasons and a league doubles champion after her sophomore season, and she made the all-area team each of her four years at SMHS. She received the City Club’s most valuable player award after her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. In the classroom at SMHS, Jack was chosen to be a Promethean, a California Scholarship Federation Seal Bearer and an AP Scholar.
Devon is the daughter of Nam and Mike Jack. Her older brother, Drew, is a graduate of SMHS and Occidental College.
