Gordon Weaver

Gordon Frederick Weaver passed away peacefully with his loving daughter by his side Monday, December 28, 2020. Born in the town of Wilmar (now Rosemead) on July 21, 1929, Gordon was a 60-year resident of San Marino. Gordon spent his early years growing up in Arcadia and Monrovia, with lengthy visits to Laguna Beach to visit his beloved maternal grandfather.
At the age of 16, Gordon enlisted in both the Navy ROTC as well as the Army ROTC, training by day for one and at night for the other, on the weekends. At age 18, Gordon enrolled at UCLA. While at UCLA, Gordon met the love of his life, Shirley Ellis of San Marino. In 1948, Gordon chose to enlist in the Navy (his father was a World War I naval veteran). Upon his graduation from UCLA in 1950, Gordon and Shirley became engaged, and in 1951, Gordon was sent overseas to serve as an officer on the transport ship USS Logan in the Korean War. Gordon served from 1951-1953, and upon his honorable discharge (while still remaining in the reserve), came home and married Shirley Ellis. Gordon and Shirley raised their 3 daughters Sandra, Cynthia and Linda on Endicott Rd.
Gordon was employed by Merrill Lynch for over 40 years, where he had a distinguished career in financial advising. In addition, Gordon had a 40-year career serving in the naval reserve, and retired as a Captain in 1989. Over the years, Gordon was an active member of San Marino Community Church, where he served on an usher team, as well as being involved with Twigbenders. Gordon was a member of San Marino City Club as well as San Marino Rotary Club.
Nothing gave Gordon more joy than spending time with his six grandsons. He and Shirley would often drive to Brentwood to watch their grandsons Alex and Zack Toll (Sandra Weaver Toll) in a sporting event or just spend time with them, or venture up to Menlo Park, CA to visit his four grandsons David, Matthew, Craig and William (Linda Weaver McGrouther). Gordon was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. Gordon is predeceased by his loving wife Shirley of 65 years (2018), as well as daughters Sandra Weaver Toll (1994) and Cynthia Weaver (1994). Gordon Weaver is survived by daughter Linda Weaver McGrouther (David) of Menlo Park, CA, his son-in-law James Toll of Brentwood, 6 grandsons, as well as his half-sister Rosemarie Reed (Brian Hashimoto) of Boise, Idaho.
A graveside service will be held Friday, January 15, at 9 a.m. at Forest Lawn Glendale.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gordon’s name to the San Marino Community Church.
