Ude to Kick Off Year for City Club

Mayor Ken Ude will be the featured speaker for the San Marino City Club’s January meeting.

Ken Ude, who last month took over as the community’s mayor for a year, will be the featured speaker for the San Marino City Club’s first meeting of 2021 on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m.
Ude will speak about the state of the city and update the club on the status of many of the key projects and issues currently facing San Marino.
A 35-year resident of the community, Ude was elected to the City Council in November 2017 after running on the premise that “San Marino is a $30 million business and should be run like one.” Professionally, Ude was CEO of a number of private equity-backed companies in a variety of industries, ranging from a race car driving school to women’s cosmetics to PODS portable storage.
More recently, he was director of USC’s Family Business Program, which led him into consulting with family-owned businesses as they grow their market and plan for generational transitions. His focus on the council has been on financial, operational and capital improvements.
Ude is a graduate of USC, where he earned his undergraduate degree, Master of Business Administration degree and a master’s in public relations. Ken and his wife, Cathy, raised their three daughters — Carolyn, Kristen and Allison — in San Marino, where they went through the local public school system. He was active in youth sports programs and has served as a member of the San Marino Schools Foundation. Ude invented the popular yard sign program acknowledging donors.
He was also president of the Foundation of San Marino Community Church.
Guests are welcome to attend the City Club’s virtual event for $15, payable prior to the start of the program, by registering at sanmarinocityclub.org. Club members will receive an email reminder for the meeting and may RSVP as well as register and pay for a guest via the website. All registrants will receive an email with the Zoom meeting information and password.
Meeting attendees will also see brief updates from City Manager Marcella Marlowe and the superintendent of the San Marino Unified School District, Jeff Wilson.
The club is a nonprofit civic organization that since 1926 has been dedicated to obtaining civic, educational and cultural services and facilities for San Marino citizens, and to encouraging and promoting high standards of citizenship among its members. Club membership is open to residents of the SMUSD, officials of the school district or city, and persons who conduct their business or profession within the school district or have a significant, ongoing relationship with the San Marino community.
A member is provided with eight meetings that feature timely, important and informative speakers of both local and national interest and the opportunity to meet many of San Marino’s elected officials, city and school district leaders and citizens. For more information, visit sanmarinocityclub.org.
