New Class at LCPC: Parenting Your Elementary Kids

Sloan Walsh

La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s Parent Education is offering a new Parent Express class: Parenting Your Elementary Kids with instructor Sloan Walsh. This class will meet via Zoom four times on Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. beginning March 3 and is for parents with children in kindergarten through 4th grade. Register at lacanadapc.org/parented. Scholarships are available.
Parents will discuss topics including the latest in brain research and how it practically relates to our children’s development, learning, behavior and relationships. In a spiritually rich environment, participants will learn specific parenting strategies in managing behavior, building emotional intelligence and helping their children thrive from a “Whole Brained, Whole Hearted” parenting approach. Parents will gain ideas for creating a strong family culture and identity, while also exploring the joys and challenges of raising children during a pandemic.
Walsh has been teaching Parent Education at LCPC since 2003. She has taught classes for parents and toddlers, 3- and 4-year-olds, elementary age kids and tweens in addition to a class on parenting children with exceptional needs. She brings a wealth of experience from years in the classroom as a bilingual teacher and literacy specialist. Walsh has also enjoyed the opportunity to be trained by and work with Tina Payne Bryson, co-author of the “Whole Brain Child” at the Center for Connection. A mother of three, Walsh is passionate about working with parents and children and seeing them thrive in their lives and families.
Parent Education offers a customized mix of in-person outdoor classes and virtual classes. Due to COVID-19, Parent Ed has customized each class to ensure participants will still receive the same quality education they have come to expect from LCPC Parent Education. Last year, Parent Education attracted more than 600 parents and children from 22 different cities.
Due to new Zoom options, parents can now join classes long distance — even from other states.
