Lacy Park and the appearance of Mr. Bunny brought the popular event to a close.

“We were very lucky and it was a great day,” said Brian Haworth, the city’s Community Services director. “A lot of cities were holding different events and we thought it would be a good opportunity to get the kids involved with their families.”
The event, which was held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, was geared toward children ages 2-12 and designed in compliance with social distancing guidelines.
Participants began their day at Stoneman, where they were given a basket and map, which was unlocked by solving riddles at seven other destinations.
For the first time, the egg hunt enlisted the participation of other community groups — Rotary Club of San Marino, Chinese Club of San Marino, East Meets West Parent Education Club and San Marino Community Church — all providing resources.
“That was a nice thing to involve the community groups and give them a chance to showcase what they can do,” said Haworth. “Since we didn’t have an egg hunt last year, we thought we would make this one special.”
The start of the course featured “Ms. Bunny” and her carrot patch; the second stop was the San Marino Community Church, which gave out bubbles and featured a bubble machine.
“Pictures don’t do it justice,” quipped Haworth.
The city’s public works department offered up a tractor that was “visited” by Mr. and Mrs. Bunny; the Crowell Public Library celebrated dinosaur eggs and “Bunnysaurus Rex” (a staff member in a dinosaur costume handing out treats); and the finish line featured Mr. Bunny.
Two participants have already redeemed their golden tickets and received their special bounty of (mostly chocolate) treats, but Haworth expects that number to grow very soon.
