Mayfield Track Athletes Shine at Simi Valley Invitational

The Mayfield Senior track and field team recently had a strong showing in the Simi Valley Invitational, one of the biggest track and field events so far this season.
Stanford-bound Audrey Suarez competed in the top flight 1,600-meter race and placed first with a time of 4 minutes, 55.43 seconds, edging La Cañada High School standout Ellaney Matarese. The winning time was a new meet record. Cecelia Kvochak ran in the same race and finished in 5:37.51 for 13th place.
In the 100-meter finals, Sade Falese led the Cubs with a time of 13.40 seconds, which was good for 20th. Alyssa Gallardo was 63rd in the race with a time of 14.39, Nikkie Hensley finished in 14.86 for 71st, Zoe Griffin wasn’t far behind to take 76th with a time of 15.03 and Sophia Barriga posted a time of 17.88, which was good for 88th.
Gallardo also competed in the 200 finals and finished in 30.55 for 53rd place. Hensley was the second Cub to cross the finish line with a time of 31.86, placing her 67th, Erica Ramos was 81st with 34.86 and Barriga placed 84th with 38.98.
Natalie Mera competed in the 800 meters and finished in 2:51.76 for 32nd place. Clare Kvochak was 22nd in the 1,600-meter finals race with a time of 6:12.39 and teammate Jayde Lim finished in 6:16.78 for 26th.
Three Mayfield athletes competed in field events. Falese was fourth in the long jump finals with a distance of 15 feet, 5 inches. Zoe Griffin also contributed a fourth-place finish by recording 28-00.50 in the triple jump, and Ramos was seventh in the same event with 25-08.50.
