Scott Edmonds, a San Marino resident for more than 30 years, has been named varsity softball coach at San Marino High School.
“Coach Edmonds comes to us with a wealth of experience, having coached Little League, middle school, high school, and club softball,” David Irie, the school’s director of athletics, said in a press release. “In addition, having lived in the community, Scott is familiar with the intricacies of our softball community. With a thorough background of experiences, Scott is well-prepared for success in leading the Titan softball program.”
Edmonds coached for over 14 years in the San Marino Little League softball program, winning all-star and league championships. He even wrote the league’s coaches’ manual.
Edmonds has also coached the Huntington Middle School softball team over the last two seasons, compiling an 18-2 record. In addition, Edmonds coached baseball at SMHS during the 1980s.
Edmonds has also coached in the Batbusters club softball organization for the last eight seasons, with his squads finishing in the top 40 of the Premiere Division four times in the under-12, -14, -16 and -18-year-old divisions. As a member of the Batbusters organization, Edmonds has been involved in various facets of coaching and helping players get recruited to college softball programs. He has been a member of the softball booster club as well as other community groups and organizations.
“Coach Edmonds has committed a large share of his time to helping various athletic groups that he has coached or his children have played for,” Irie said. “San Marino has been fortunate to have him as a constant supporter of various youth and high school sports. As coach of the Titans, he will put his experience at the Little League, club, and high school levels to good use.”
“I am excited for this opportunity,” said Edmonds during a telephone conversation earlier this week.
The new coach pointed out that he has, at one time or another, coached every member of the San Marino High School varsity team, including prospective incoming freshmen.
Edmonds and his wife, Tracy, have three children. Raquel, a 2014 graduate of SMHS, played four years of varsity softball and two seasons at Pasadena City College. Daughter Sammy played four years of varsity softball at SMHS before graduating in 2018 and is currently in her fourth year playing at California Lutheran University. Son Mark, a 2020 graduate of SMHS, played four years of baseball, including two varsity campaigns. Earlier this spring, he was asked to coach the Titans when the former varsity coached abruptly resigned early in the season.
