Philanthropic League Will ‘Spring Into Art’ on March 26-27

First published in the Jan. 20 print issue of the San Marino Tribune.

The San Marino League, a Southern California nonprofit organization committed to philanthropic work in the community, will hold “Spring into Art” March 26-27 at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens.
This year’s event is SML’s sixth juried exhibition and sale that will benefit the ArtCenter College of Design and the Huntington.
“Spring into Art” attracts some of the country’s best artists, providing more than 150 exceptional juried paintings available for purchase, as well as original 3D creations such as glass art, ceramics, pottery, sculpture and jewelry, crafted especially for the show by selectively invited artisans.
The juried fine art exhibition will be anchored by nine featured artists chosen from a list of outstanding painters, including Peter Adams, Sid Bingham, Karl Dempwolf, Wayne Hunt, Brent Jensen, Joan Kahn, Michael Obermeyer, Jason Situ and Thalia Stratton.
Jurors for the exhibition include Seth Baker, head gardener of the Brody California Education and Visitor’s Center at the Huntington and an ArtCenter alum; Stephen Nowlin, former vice president of Exhibitions and director of the Alyce Roulet de Williamson Gallery at ArtCenter, of which he is also an alum; and Richard Rice, director of International Affairs at Galerie Michael in Beverly Hills, California.
For members of the general public interested in viewing or purchasing artwork, entry to “Spring into Art” will be included with the price of admission to the Huntington on the days of the exhibition.
In addition to artists receiving 50% of the proceeds from their sales, individual cash awards will be issued to artists in the following categories: Best in Show, 2nd place, 3rd place, Best Depiction of an iconic Pasadena or L.A. Landscape and Best New Artist. Artists will also be invited to a private, invitation-only opening night reception on March 25. The Huntington is located at 1151 Oxford Road.
