Three SMHS Wrestlers Advance to Masters

First published in the Feb. 17 print issue of the San Marino Tribune.

Three San Marino High School wrestlers have advanced to this weekend’s CIF Masters meet based on their performances at last weekend’s CIF-SS divisional tournaments.
Senior Ryan Arrington pinned all five of his opponents at the CIF-SS Inland Division tournament at Ayala High School in Chino Hills to win the 220-pound weight class. Two weeks ago, Arrington won the Rio Hondo League championship at 220 pounds.
Ryder Yoshitake, a sophomore, finished third in the 145-pound weight class at the Inland Division meeting. Yoshitake finished second in the Rio Hondo League at 145.
Arrington and Yoshitake will compete in the CIF Masters meet this weekend at Sonora High School in La Habra. To advance to the CIF State meet in Bakersfield, they will have to finish in the top nine of their respective weight classes out of the 32 wrestlers who have qualified for Masters.
Sasha Redshaw, a sophomore, placed fifth in the 131-pound girls’ weight class at the CIF Southern Division competition, which was held last weekend at San Dimas High School. Redshaw finished second in the Rio Hondo League finals and her Masters competition will take place at Marina High School in Huntington Beach. To advance to the girls’ CIF State meet, Redshaw must finish in the top eight out of the 32 wrestlers who have qualified for Masters.
The boys’ and girls’ state meets will be held concurrently in Bakersfield from Feb. 24-26.
