Two Titans Advance to CIF Track Finals

Two San Marino High School track athletes are continuing on to the CIF Southern Section Division 4 finals, which will be held this Saturday, May 14, at Moorpark High School.

During the CIF Division 4 preliminaries at Carpinteria High School last Saturday, SMHS senior Madison Spitzer tied for second place out of 21 jumpers in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet.

Junior Benjamin Hughes finished in fourth place among a field of 41 runners in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:23.96 to advance.

Juniors Benjamin Hughes, left, and Thai Villaluna turned in solid times in the CIF Division 4 1,600-meter run, with Hughes advancing to the finals.

The Titans had several other fine performances. Junior Megan Linden finished in 14th place in the girls’ 400 with a time of 1:01.13. Junior Thai Villaluna finished in 31st place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:23.96, but did not make it to the finals.

Freshman Keidyn Liu ran a personal best of 26.48 seconds in the 200, which was good enough for 14th place. Liu teamed with Emelia Heller, Audrey Hui and Linden to finish 14th in CIF Division 5 4×100-meter relay with a time of 51.97, but they did not advance.
