Valentine Elementary recently recognized Heart of Gold Award honorees during its annual May Day celebration.
The Heart of Gold Award is given to dedicated volunteers who have gone above and beyond in supporting school activities throughout the year. This year’s honorees were Audrey McCarthy, Evelyn Xu, Dori Mukherjee, Anisha Taheer, Pauline Mu Zeitlin, Vivi Wahl, Tina Wong, Erin Clougherty and Evelyn Wildeman.
This well-attended family celebration included the traditional maypole and sword dances, which were performed by the 5th-graders. A variety of musical numbers were also performed by students in transitional kindergarten through 4th grade.
At the end of each performance, parents in the audience were encouraged to join their child on the field to take part in the dance. If the smiles of audience members were any indication, the return of the May Day celebration at Valentine Elementary was a great success.
