WWII Veterans Antosy, Campbell to Speak at Memorial Day

Two distinguished veterans of the U.S. Army will speak at San Marino’s Memorial Day ceremony, which will be held at the War Memorial in Lacy Park on Monday, May 30, beginning at 9 a.m.

Steve Antosy and Bruce Campbell, both San Marino residents, will comment on their service during WWII. Antosy participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and later covered the Nuremberg War Trials from the courtroom for the Armed Forces Network.

Campbell served in the famed 10th Mountain Division, where he fought in Italy with America’s specially trained mountain and winter warfare division.

The annual service provides a reflective moment for the community to pay tribute to local war veterans and acknowledge San Marino residents who gave their lives defending the nation and its freedoms. The service consists of keynote speakers, patriotic music and the reading of the 53 service members’ names included on the War Memorial.

As mayor, Susan Jakubowski will be one of the featured speakers. She commented on being grateful to have an in-person gathering again this year, particularly to continue the tradition of passing the microphone around for all to have a chance to speak.

“Our city has a profound appreciation and respect for those who have served our country with military service,” said Jakubowski. “It is an honor and privilege each Memorial Day to participate in our solemn tradition of honoring that service and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Recreation Division of Community Services at (626) 403-2200.
