Cool temperatures and cloudy skies greeted the hundreds of runners and walkers who showed up on the morning of July 4th to participate in the 18th annual J.P. Blecksmith Memorial 5K Walk & Run. The 2022 event marked the first in-person race since 2019 and honored the memory of U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Lt. J.P. Blecksmith, a former San Marino resident who gave his life on Nov. 11, 2004, during Operation Iraqi Freedom II in Fallouja, Iraq.
Two San Marino High School graduates – Olivia Ruiz and Wesley Reutimann – recorded the fastest times in the women’s and men’s divisions, respectively.
