Little League Embraces Opening Day

After a weeklong delay due to winter storms, San Marino National Little League officially started the season at the 71st annual opening day ceremony on Saturday, March 4.
Baseball player agent Mark Hughes and softball player agent Phil Webb announced each team as they took positions around the baseball diamond for the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem.
The 2023 SMNLL President Jason Rome welcomed families and offered thanks to the executive board, the team managers, and the many volunteers and sponsors who make each season possible. Mitch Lehman of the San Marino Tribune served as emcee.
The morning also included a special ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new batting cages installed on the Huntington Middle School campus.
Players recited the Little League Pledge, adults made the Parent/Volunteer Pledge, All-Star Teams from the 2022 season were acknowledged and the formal first pitches were made as softball and baseball kicked off the new season.
