Elementary Student Organizes Walk for CHLA

San Marino 5th-grader Leo Helmy has announced plans for his next fundraiser walk to benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, one of the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals. The event, named San Marino Cares, will take place on Sunday, April 23, at Lacy Park, and all residents are welcome to participate.
According to the event website, the grassroots fundraiser was created to galvanize the community in support of CHLA, where Leo has been serving as a Junior Ambassador.
“I was so happy to see so many of my friends and neighbors come out to support my first fundraiser walk,” said Leo. “In my opinion, CHLA is the best hospital in the world and they do so much amazing work to help children and families. I hope that I am able to gather a bigger crowd this year. Please tell you friends and neighbors to come.”
According to CHLA’s website, the hospital has 6,500 employees and nearly 900 physicians, and relies on the generosity of community supporters to provide care to children and to increase awareness of their patients’ health issues.
To register for the walk, families need to donate to CHLA through the San Marino Cares website at SanMarinoCares.com.
