Stars Cornhole Tournament to Help Scholarship Fund

Stars, a Pasadena-based nonprofit supporting local Pasadena Unified School District students, is launching a new college scholarship program – the Eric V. Johnson Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship is named in honor of Eric Johnson, Stars’ longtime associate director who is “deeply loved by the Pasadena community and has tirelessly served urban youth and teens dealing with trauma for over 40 years as a pastor, director and educator,” said Stars Executive Director Nancy Stiles.
The inaugural fundraising event in launching the scholarship fund will be at the Stars Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, April 22, at 4 p.m. For information, visit gostars.org/cornhole.
Johnson became part of the Stars team in 2010 as the middle school/high school program manager and now, as associate director, provides oversight for the K-12 after-school programs, summer programming and community partnerships. His role includes building support and advocacy within the Pasadena Unified School District community around systemic issues impacting vulnerable students and families by leveraging relationships within the faith, nonprofit and business communities.
The Eric V. Johnson Scholarship will be open to PUSD high school seniors transitioning to secondary education and to students enrolled in trade school, Pasadena City College or Glendale Community College who reside in the Villa Parke, Jackie Robinson, La Pintoresca or Charles White Park neighborhoods. The cohort of scholarship recipients will join the Stars community by participating in three cohort- specific gatherings, as well as general programs. For application information, visit gostars.org/college.
