Garden Club Hosts Tree Expedition at Lacy Park

The San Marino Garden Club’s recent meeting included a tree expedition, where members explored the history of the many varieties of trees planted at Lacy Park.
The expedition was led by the city of San Marino urban forester Lora Hall, who presented and detailed the variety of trees from around the world planted through the years, including those donated by the club in memory of past presidents. At the meeting, many members shared their knowledge and memories.
The club also learned that Lake Wilson was originally filled during the 1920s building of Caltech’s basements and thus began the evolution of Lacy Park. Many trees began to be planted in the park, with an effort to have trees from around the world create a park to envision a garden city where residents would come to be inspired. It was also shared that the garden club worked with the city to create “same tree” streets seen throughout the city today.
