Library Supporters Gather for Anniversary

The Friends of the Crowell Public Library celebrated 65 years of service and support to the library at an anniversary event held on April 21.
A dinner on the patio, which had been given a springtime transformation, was followed by musical entertainment in the Barth Room.
Attendees included Mayor Steve Talt, Councilwoman Gretchen Shepherd Romey, former Mayor Eugene Sun, San Marino Community Services Director Cathi Johnson, Library Foundation President Su Viswanathan and foundation members, among others.
During the celebration, Talt reminisced on his long association with the library, sharing his memory of going to the used bookstore and participating in the summer reading program.
He also named the group as Volunteers of the Year for 2022-23 and gave them a proclamation, which will hang in the Book Shoppe for all to see. Funds from the sale of donated used books enable the Friends to make an annual donation to the library in support of its children’s programming, Opera Talks and the purchase of bestsellers and other current books.
