Titans Hammer Xavier Prep in CIF Opener

San Marino High School’s varsity baseball team defeated Xavier Prep High of Palm Desert by a final score of 11-3 in a CIF first-round playoff game that was played at San Marino’s McNamee Field.
Senior pitcher Michael Liquori was his typical unhittable self for the Titans, scattering five hits over five innings while striking out five. Liquori surrendered just two earned runs and one walk before handing the ball to Tomas Bilvado, who pitched well in relief.
Offensively, third baseman Coleman Morning had a “monster day” in head coach J.J. Franklin’s estimation, going two-for-three at the plate with 3 RBIs, a run and a stolen base. Sebastian Liquori all went two-for-three with an RBI and a run scored as San Marino pulled away late.
The Titans, who improved to 18-6 overall with the victory after finishing 8-4 in league action, played their CIF second round playoff game at Alhambra on Tuesday afternoon; the game ended after the Tribune’s press deadline but will be included in next week’s issue.
