Police Reminds Residents to Prioritize Proper Gun Storage

The San Marino Police Department recently shared information about how to securely store firearms for Gun Storage Check Week, which was June 1-7.

SMPD used the occasion to remind residents to take the time to review their gun storage practice and make changes, if necessary, to help prevent accidents, suicides and thefts.

Firearm safety is an essential part of home safety, and responsible secure storage methods include using cable locks, lock boxes for homes and vehicles, lockable gun cases and full-size safes. SMPD encourages the gun owners to keep the weapon in a holster if they are within reach of the firearm.

The SMPD warns residents that hiding guns on top of refrigerators, closet shelves, bedstand drawers and car glove compartments are not secure places to keep guns.
