Candice Murphy Phelan

Candace Murphy Phelan passed away at home in San Marino on June 4, 2022, surrounded by her beloved husband, Tom, of 50 years and devoted daughters, Maureen and Katy.

Candy was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on January 21, 1947, to the late George and Marian Murphy. Candy was one of seven children and grew up in San Pedro and graduated from Mary Star of the Sea High School. She attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a master’s degree in Education. She was a member of the Tri Delta sorority and a loyal Trojan.

Candy loved her Trojans, except when they didn’t win. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and godchildren.

Candy lived life to the fullest with simple pleasures: reading, being with her family and dogs, needlepointing, and visiting friends and family. She was a well-loved member of the Carver School community, made many wonderful friends, where she taught for 27 years. Candy touched people with her kindness and patience, and devoted her life to her family, teaching, and the Catholic faith.
