Donna Diane Johnson | Obituary

Donna Diane Johnson

Donna passed away quietly in her sleep on the morning of June 29, 2022.

She is survived by Fred, her husband of 62 years. Donna was born September 3, 1936, in Los Angeles and is a fourth generation Californian.

Donna was a resident of San Marino since 1978. On graduation from Alhambra High School in 1955, Donna took a job with Hill-Richards stock brokerage firm. This began a career in a male-dominated field where she rose to vice-presidencies at Chase-Manhattan, Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Prudential Securities and Wachovia Securities.

Donna was one of the first women asked to join the Los Angeles Bond Club. As a member of the Los Angeles Association of Investment Women, Donna served as president of the group.

After meeting on a blind date, Donna found time to marry Fred in 1960, settling into a new home in Monterey Park. There they began collecting the first of many stray cats. In their 7th year of marriage, Donna and Fred discovered their love of boats and sailing. Acquiring their first sailboat led to membership in the Pacific Mariners Yacht Clun in Marina Del Rey, and with succeeding boats, the Long Beach Yacht Club and the Fourth of July Yacht Club on Catalina’s West End.

Donna’s remarkable life had a few bumps along the way. In 1988, Donna was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she underwent a mastectomy. Again, in 2008, she underwent a second surgery. A few years later, a routine colonoscopy revealed colon cancer.  She handled it.

Donna’s ashes will be scattered at sea, at a time to be determined.
