November 19, 1925 – August 28, 2022
Julia Ann Shaw, age 96, passed away at home on Saturday, August 28, 2022, in Pasadena, California.
She was born on November 19, 1925, in Los Angeles, California, to the union of the late Antonino and Josephina Abbatte. She was the youngest of 13 children, all of whom preceded her in death.
Julia married the late John Shaw in 1943, and their union yielded three children, (the late) Ted, Julie and John.
Julia was a businesswoman for more than 70 years in the garment industry. She was also active in multiple volunteer groups such as Holy Family’s 50+ Club, Carmelite Sisters, South Pasadena Tournament of Roses and Holy Family Giving Bank. She will be greatly remembered for “holding court” at most venues. She was an outgoing woman with lots of joy and love to share.
As the matriarch of the family, Julia enjoyed vacations, holidays, pool and game days with multi-generations of family members. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren will always remember her bowls full of kisses, Butterfingers, Fig Newtons and an endless supply of donuts.
She is survived by two living children, Julie Smith and John Shaw, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on October 1, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena, California. A reception will follow at Connolly Hall. There will be a private internment.
