Miriam Griffith Jones

Miriam Griffith Jones (Mimi), 88, of San Marino, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her children and animals.
She was born in Los Angeles on June 23, 1934. She was the second child of John Stevenson Griffith and Helene Hostetter Griffith of Pasadena. She attended Polytechnic School in Pasadena and The Oldfields School of Glencoe, Maryland, as a member of the Class of 1952.
Miriam was a longtime member of the Digger’s Garden Club since 1968, and she loved plants, especially her violets. She spent many summers in Balboa at her parents’ home, along with her brother, John S. Griffith, where she would sail Snowbirds.
Later in life, she spent much time on the Balboa peninsula and at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, where she frequented regularly. A dedicated lover of animals, Miriam enjoyed spending time in the Santa Ynez valley, where she owned horses, alpacas, llamas and sheep, whose wool she would spin and knit clothing with. She also supported several animal charities, even adopting rescue donkeys and dogs.
Miriam was an avid L.A. sports fan, rarely missing a Rams, Lakers or Dodgers game on television and even radio. As a die-hard Dodgers fan, Miriam would often keep scorecards during games, whether she attended them in person, or listened to them with Vin Scully on the radio, even as far back as when they were the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson D. Jones, and is survived by her children, Nelson Dorrington Jones Jr., of Santa Ynez, Griffith Hostetter Jones, of Haleiwa, Hawaii, and Helene Jones Smith of La Crescenta; five grandchildren, Amanda Leslie Jones, Nelson Dorrington Jones III, Abigail Morgan Smith, Bao Kea Jones and Kama Buen Jones. A celebration of life will be held at her San Marino home. Please contact the Jones family for details.
