Ellis Joseph

Ellis Joseph Seligman, MD, passed away on July 19, 2020, at his home in San Marino from endocarditis that resulted in a stroke. He was 83. Ellis was born in Northfork, West Virginia, on Nov. 2, 1936, to Dena and Raymond Seligman. He attended West Virginia University and Chicago Medical School. In 1961, Ellis married his beloved wife, Darlene, and they moved to California. The two traveled extensively during their 47 years of marriage before Darlene passed away in 2008. Ellis practiced dermatology for 50 years, mostly at Alhambra Medical Clinic, which then became Facey San Gabriel. After retirement, he continued to teach and mentor medical students at LA County-USC Medical Center. In additional to his family and practicing medicine, Ellis loved classical music, opera, movies, travel, animals, and watching “60 Minutes” and “Jeopardy.” He belonged to Pasadena Jewish Temple and later participated with the Jewish Collaborative of Orange County. Ellis is survived by his son Ross, daughter Bonnie, son-in-law Neil, and granddaughters Courtney and Danielle. He also enjoyed 10 years with his wonderful companion, Harriet Bonn, who passed away last year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jewish Foundation of the Righteous, Opera League of Los Angeles, Beit T’Shuvah, or the Pasadena Humane Society.
