The San Marino High School class of 1958, which was just the third graduating class in the school’s history, celebrated its 60-year reunion last week. Sixty-one class members attended at least one of the four reunion events. The multi-day reunion included a reception at Southwestern Academy hosted by Headmaster Ken Veronda, an SMHS classmate; a tour of SMHS led by Principal Issaic Gates; a luncheon at the home of classmate Ken Hill hosted by Hill and classmate Paul Bennett; and the reunion banquet attended by more than 100 guests at San Gabriel Country Club that was hosted by classmates Don Norberg and Gary Primm. The reunion events resulted from yearlong planning by a dedicated committee of 11 classmates who had also planned the 50- and 55-year reunions. Reunion committee members included chair Bowman, Primm, Gilliam, Hill, Bennett, Norberg, Thomas and Payne. Class President Jim Connelly initiated a Class of 1958 Fund, which has now raised more than $15,000. The money will be donated to SMHS for a new marquee on Huntington Drive to replace the one that was erected in 1999. “The reunion events were wonderful and a great success,” Bowman said. “We, the committee, are very pleased with the attendance and how smoothly it all went.”
