Rotarian Rick Politte, executive director of the South Pasadena San Marino YMCA, recently spoke at Rotary Club of San Marino’s weekly lunch meeting. The two-part program consisted of Politte giving details about the number of people who are served by the Y (about 13,000), and particularly those who receive scholarships to be able to participate in Y activities (about 2,000). Two YMCA members, mother Marjorie and daughter Hanna Crowley, also spoke from two different perspectives, one from a working mother mentioning the comfort she felt sending her daughter to a safe and nurturing organization for after-school and evening activities. The daughter then spoke of the programs she enjoyed, but particularly, her progression at Camp Whittle, from being a camper to a member of staff, to running the camp.
