The Rotary Club of San Marino recently welcomed Larry, Mireya and Chuck Jones of Jones Coffee to its weekly meeting. The Jones family owns and operates the popular Jones Coffee Roasters in Pasadena. Although the family grew up in San Marino, Mireya Jones’ grandmother and great-grandmother first started growing coffees in the Guatemalan Highlands in 1870. Both women were named Maria, so the coffee finca, or farm, is named in their honor, “Dos Marias.” The farm is recognized by leading specialty coffee organizations for its commitment to the environment and to the welfare of its worker community. The Jones described the arduous process of growing, picking, sorting and roasting beans, selling to about 200 local restaurants and premium hotels in the area.
