Members of San Marino Service Unit Girl Scout troops 6341, 1151, 9121 and 3251 gathered at Hill-Harbison House last week to hear speakers from the Rise Against Hunger organization, the San Marino City Council and the Girl Scouts, and then went to work on behalf of hungry people. The scouts formed assembly lines and helped package 2,500 dehydrated meals consisting of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. It was an opportunity for the troops to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become engaged advocates for the world’s hungry people. Girl Scout Claire Littman said meals packaged at a previous event in which she participated were sent to the Philippines to aid people affected by natural disasters. The event last week helped Rise Against Hunger — which says its mission is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and assistance to the world’s most vulnerable people — mark the launch of its new Los Angeles office.
