Troop 351 Scouts Celebrate Their Centennial

More than 120 Scouts, alumni, past and present leaders gathered last Saturday at the San Marino Boy Scout House to celebrate Troop 351’s centennial. The theme of the event was “100 Years of Scouting: Recognize the Past, Honor the Present, Prepare for the Future.” The event began with a social gathering and commenced with emcee and assistant patrol leader William Lieberg introducing Scoutmaster Andy Rooke. Rooke’s opening remarks took the crowd on a journey over the course of 100 years and the changes and advancements the world has seen … and remarkably how scouting has remained relatively the same. He recognized that the troop’s success was only made possible by the unwavering support of the parents, families, friends and the San Marino City Club. Rooke concluded by announcing that after 100 years, Troop 351 will be making scouting possible to girls with the formation of a sister troop, 351 G, with the support of the Rotary Club of San Marino. The San Marino Historical Society and San Marino City Club each donated $300 to Troop 351 on Saturday. Troop 351’s two newest Eagle Scouts — Stoyan Tsvetkov and Luc Gutierrez — were presented. Dr. Tom Hartman, Scouts BSA Greater Los Angeles Area Council Vice President of District Operations, called for all Eagles present to rise and join in the Eagle Oath, which he followed with a few remarks and stories of his own. The event concluded with dinner and conversations under the stars.
