The Old Mill’s “Music Under the Stars” summer concert series kicked off with The Westerns in a sold-out show June 22.
The Westerns, a new Los Angeles alt-country band, features San Marino resident Matthew Hart and Kit Pongetti. The two met in the 1990s as founding members of Austin, Texas-based band Those Who Dig. They’ve honed their sound on Southern California stages for years, releasing their debut album “Saguaro” in 2023 and follow-up “Pedernal” in 2024.
Hart’s daughter, Charlotte, a Polytechnic School graduate, is among the band members.
Before the concert, 75 Old Mill members had a picnic dinner under oak trees on El Molino Viejo’s driveway, an event known as “Dinners on the Drive.”
Upcoming concerts include violin-flute-viola collective Trio Elica on July 20 and Rich Hinman vs. Adam Levy on Aug. 17. Tickets cost $30 for members and $40 for non-members, available at the Old Mill online at old-mill.org or by mail.
