“An Acoustic Delight” Showcases Top Regional Musical Talent

January 24, 2023 – Pasadena, CA — Severin Browne and JaKL the Trio headline two powerful three-hour shows produced by Theatre Americana, featuring an eclectic blend of music from folk to rock, from contemporary through jazz, both originals and covers, on March 11 and 12, 2023.

The Saturday, March 11 performance at 7 pm will include:

  • Severin Browne – a former Motown recording artist and staff songwriter who has shared stages with Kenny Rankin, the Kingston Trio, John Hartford, and many more, Severin’s clear voice and finely crafted songs keep audiences coming back for more.
  • JaKL the Trio (Jaynee Thorne, Karen Tobin, Leslie Barker) – Three creative and unique women who have lived in the Los Angeles area performing in various musical configurations, as lead singers, emerging artists, studio singers, and accomplished songwriters.
  • Raspin Stuwart – a soulful singer/songwriter and captivating showman whose music has been heard all over the world, including Starbucks nationwide in-store airplay, Raspin has performed at venues such as Biscuits & Blues SF, San Diego’s Adams St. and Make Music Pasadena festivals.
  • Michael Campagna – composer and visual artist who has created music for diverse acts such as Chaka Khan and Psychic TV, will perform a rare set examining the spiritual condition of the world.

The Sunday, March 12 performance at 2:30 pm will include:

  • Severin Browne and JaKL.
  • Greg Wood – composer/playwright whose music career didn’t take off until he retired from the advertising world and, since, he’s finished four albums and written the music for “Mary of the Avenue,” a play performed five times by Theatre Americana.
  • Cynthia Brando – acoustic folk rock singer/songwriter who has played at venues such as the House of Blues, music festivals and on national tours.
  • Kim Margolis – singer/songwriter/producer from London, England who worked with both Elton John and Cat Stevens early in their careers.
  • Al Timms – a founding member and keyboard player for The Village Moose, a 1970’s rock band during the 70’s, Al is currently performing with two musical production companies, as vocalist for a jazz octet “The Outrageous Eight,” and in a Doo-Wop Motown ensemble “The Doo Drops.”

Both shows will be staged at Portico Art Space in Pasadena, with tickets available from EventBrite for $35 per person for this three hours of uplifting, thought-provoking and highly entertaining music.  All proceeds benefit Theatre Americana, one of California’s oldest production companies, established in 1935 to help bring the arts to audiences of all ages and socio-economic background, including philanthropic endeavors to support the well-being of our communities.
