Meet Valentine Elementary School’s ‘Chicken Man’

It’s too bad that generations of students at Valentine Elementary School are familiar with the chicken suit that has appeared before them the past 25 May 1sts, but know little of the man within. David Pierce, husband of Valentine’s 28-year veteran first grade teacher Tonia, has for the past quarter century, donned the scratchy costume on May Day, to host the celebration of those in the community who have given selflessly of themselves for the betterment of the school. Typical of his humble upbringing and legacy as a proud Eagle Scout, David Pierce prefers the work that takes place behind the scenes and highlights the merits of others. But it’s time for all that to change…
