San Marino Rotary Club Celebrates Centennial Clock’s 10th Anniversary

By Stacy Lee

The Rotary Club of San Marino celebrated the 10-year anniversary of a city icon – the Centennial Clock.

The Rotary donated the clock to the community back on July 4, 2005 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Rotary International.

Rotarians and other community members involved spoke about the clock at the San Marino Rotary luncheon meeting on July 9.

Centennial Clock Executive Committee Chair Len Therrien said planning started two years and 18 months before the clock dedication. He said the idea to build a clock for the community came from a small ad in the Rotary magazine.

“We fortunately found a vacant piece of land across from City Hall to locate the clock,” Therrien said.

Rotary Past President Jack Hamilton said all Rotaries were challenged that year by the International President of Rotary Glenn Estes to do a project to celebrate Rotary while enhancing the city.
