Maximum Build Outs are a Concern for Planning Commission

Although plans for a new two-story home at 940 Chester Avenue were recently approved by the San Marino Planning Commission, its members voiced concerns over building out to the maximum with no wiggle room.

The maximum livable square footage is 5,880 – the same as the proposed square footage. Commissioner Raymond Cheng said he believed the proposed project would be an improvement over what is there now, but emphasized how difficult it is to be that precise.

Cheng said there have been too many of these cases coming before the Planning Commission and too many cases that have gone over its planned height or square footage. This results in major fines and any non-conforming areas could potentially be demolished.
