Lady Titans Advance to Quarterfinals In CIF Tennis Playoffs

San Marino High School’s 9th-ranked varsity girls’ tennis team defeated San Clemente on Friday afternoon by a final score of 11-7 to advance to the third round of Division I playoff action. But a big challenge lies ahead of the Lady Titans, who will travel to Corona del Mar on Monday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. to challenge the top-ranked Sea Kings, who improved to 21-0 with their 16-2 second-round victory over Arroyo Grande last Friday.
Sophomore Anessa Lee again swept her three singles opponents and Kayla Chen snagged a bonus point in singles action, but it was head Coach Melwin Pereira’s doubles combinations who carried the day. Sabrina Lieu & Sophia Lee went 3-0, Caitlyn Nguyen & Rakel Ang took two sets and Dahlys Ang & Libby Chang added another point as the Lady Titans escaped the beach city with a victory. Katie Kirkendall was the other singles player for San Marino, who improved to 12-3 overall after sweeping through the Rio Hondo League undefeated to claim their 9th consecutive title.
On Wednesday,the Lady Titans defeated Valencia by a final score of 12-6 to advance to the second round.
