Are You Ready for Some Football?

It seemed as though smoke from the July 4th fireworks show was still lingering in Lacy Park when members of San Marino High School’s football team were called in for the first practice of the season on Monday, July 23, the earliest in school history. It was just two decades ago when then-Coach Bill Maloney refused to even hold a scrimmage before Labor Day, so many of his gridders were out of town…or state…or country, for that matter. This Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., members of all three teams will participate in the annual Blue & White Game in Titan Stadium. Admission is free, the public is welcome and lunch is available form a local food truck for the nominal fee of $8.

The Titans will head to Arcadia on Friday, Aug.10 for a 5:00 p.m. scrimmage against the Apaches. San Marino opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 17 when Pasadena High School comes calling for a 7:00 p.m. affair. And somewhere on the prairies of Montana, a streak of pain just shot across Bill Maloney’s neck, and he doesn’t know why.
