Peggy and Art Jones

Margaret (Peggy) Reeves Jones passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, Dec. 16. Peggy was a wonderful and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Peggy was born on June 24, 1931, in Glendale, where she spent most of her life. She attended R. D. White Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and graduated from Glendale High School in 1949. Peggy next attended the University of Arizona, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and earned a Bachelor of Arts in education.
Returning to California, Peggy began her career as a teacher, and on a blind date met her future husband, Arthur Jones, another Glendale native and longtime Glendale attorney. Peggy and Art, married for 50 years, had two children, Gregory Arthur Jones and Meg Jones. They enjoyed a happy life together full of family, travel, boating and lifelong friends. Peggy, Art and family spent many weekends and summers on their boat in Newport Beach and on boating weekends to Catalina Island.
Peggy was a master at family life, raising two children while also teaching elementary school for more than 30 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain. Peggy and Art were longtime members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Glendale, where Peggy was a committed member of St. Mark’s team of volunteers who cooked meals for the homeless at the Salvation Army. After Art passed away in 2005, Peggy became a member of the La Cañada Presbyterian Church, where her mother, Margaret Reeves, had become a member, and where Peggy’s two children, Greg and Meg, have become members along with their two families. Peggy and Art adored their five grandchildren: Scott, Betsy and Mark Blakeley and Matthew and Jack Jones. Peggy is survived by her children, Greg and Meg Jones; beloved daughter-in-law Suzanne Cate Jones; and her five grandchildren. A memorial will be held at La Cañada Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m.
