Isiah Johnson scored four touchdowns to help Maranatha defeat Sun Valley Village Christian, 42-35, in the Pasadena team’s final game of the season last week. The Minutemen, guided by former NFL star LaVar Arrington, finished with an overall record of 3-0.

Isaiah Johnson showed he can do it all and led the Maranatha High School football team to a 42-35 victory over visiting Sun Valley Village Christian last Thursday.
The sophomore tallied four touchdowns, including a 4-yard run into the end zone that allowed the Minutemen to recapture the lead with 5:32 remaining in the final quarter. On the ensuing play, Johnson faked a run to the left and threw a short pass to Cardell Mayfield for a two-point conversion to give Maranatha a seven-point lead late in the game.
Last week’s contest was the final one this season for Maranatha. Head coach LaVar Arrington guided his squad to a perfect 3-0 record with victories over Northridge Heritage Christian and La Habra Whittier Christian in the first two weeks.
Johnson had touchdown receptions of 19 and 41 yards and also ran for a 3-yard score against the Crusaders.
Tobey Schmidt, a junior quarterback who transferred from powerhouse Santa Ana Mater Dei, completed 24 of 36 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Mayfield for a 20-yard score to extend Maranatha’s lead to 27-14 before halftime.

La Salle 47
L.A. Salesian 29
The Lancers dominated on offense and defeated Los Angeles Salesian 47-29 to pick up their second win of the season.
Sophomore quarterback Richie Munoz led the Lancers (2-1 overall) by completing 16 of 27 passes for 324 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for a team-high 78 yards on nine carries.
Senior Marcus Powe was his favorite target with seven receptions for 156 yards and four touchdowns. Giovanni Butteri also had a big day with four catches for 92 yards and a touchdown, and freshman David Mysza contributed three receptions for 55 yards and a score.
Running back Rashaad Austin finished with 26 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
Junior Matthew Gamble led the defense with 14 tackles, including one sack, and Thomas Gomez and Cody Ventigan added seven tackles each.
La Salle will host unbeaten Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (4-0) at Kohorst Field this Friday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m.

St. Francis 14
The St. Francis High School varsity football team suffered a 41-14 non-league loss last Saturday.
The visiting Cubs defense held sophomore quarterback Jack Jacobs to 190 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 17 of 36 passing. He also scored a rushing touchdown.
Junior Max Garrison led the Golden Knights ground game with 102 yards on 20 carries and added three catches for 33 yards. Senior Evan Jernegan hauled in six passes for 91 yards and a touchdown, and Bryson Reeves finished with five catches for 33 yards. Matthew Buntich had two receptions for 12 yards and Mayze Bryant caught a 12-yard pass.
Jernegan also led the defense with five tackles, including one for a loss. Teammates Brendan Davitt and Preston Jernegan also contributed five tackles. Reeves blocked a field goal on special teams.
St. Francis (2-2 overall) will host Encino Crespi (3-0) this Saturday, April 10, at 7 p.m.

Pasadena 29
Arcadia 7
Pasadena kept its undefeated record intact by defeating visiting Arcadia, 29-7, at Rose Bowl Stadium last week.
Daylon Beasley led the Bulldogs (3-0 overall) with 88 yards on the ground and two touchdowns on nine carries. Cameron Taylor rushed for a 7-yard touchdown, and Ahmad Jolley finished with 40 yards on five carries.
Senior quarterback Dante Coronel completed five of seven passes for 88 yards. Mekhi Fox caught two passes for 39 yards and also returned a punt 60 yards for a score. Cameron Mitchell had a 27-yard reception and Gamaliel Serrato finished with two receptions for 22 yards.
Jason Sanford Jr. led the defense with four tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery. Jolley also recorded a sack and David Guizar finished with four tackles and a pass defended.
The Bulldogs will travel to Crescenta Valley to face the Falcons in a Pacific League contest today at 7 p.m.

Muir 50
Burbank Burroughs 0
The Mustangs picked up a Pacific League win by shutting out Burbank Burroughs, 50-0, at Rose Bowl Stadium last Friday.
Muir improved to 2-1 on the season and will travel to Burbank High School for a league contest this Friday, April 9, at 4 p.m.
