The San Marino High School varsity baseball team, which has started the season sizzling hot, improved its record to 6-0 with a 10-8 nonleague win at Sunny Hills High in Fullerton last Wednesday.
The Titans started slow as the team committed five errors and surrendered seven unearned runs in the first inning. But a sparkling rally featured every Titans starter collecting a hit in the comeback. Sebastian Liquori went 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs, Tyler Giddings was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Ryan Park went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Mikey Yessaian went 1-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored.
Meanwhile, pitcher Coleman Morning pitched 3.1 shutout innings and did not yield a hit. At the plate, he went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Earlier in the week, the Titans rallied from a two-run deficit by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Pioneer High of Whittier.
Senior Tyler Giddings pitched four innings and allowed just one run. Sophomore J.J. Wilson pitched two innings in relief, not allowing any runs.
Liquori, a senior, started off the final inning with a base hit, which was followed by hits from Giddings, Kyle Ly and Truman Koch. Ryan Park then put the ball in play to drive in the winning run.
“This was a game that took the entire team,” said head Coach J.J. Franklin.
San Marino opens Rio Hondo League play at Temple City on Friday, March 3.
