San Marino Police Arrest Juvenile for Burglary, Auto Theft

A stolen car and burglary suspect was taken into police custody on Jan. 4 after he led police on a vehicle and foot chase in San Marino.

San Marino Police Department officers were sent to an area near San Gabriel and California boulevards at 3:25 p.m. on Thursday regarding a stolen vehicle, and located it being driven by the suspect, a juvenile, at westbound Huntington Drive and Del Mar Avenue, said SMPD Sgt. Vince Wilson.

The officers pursued the suspect as he made an abrupt right turn into the rear alley of the 2400 block of Huntington Drive, where he collided with a parked vehicle and a block wall. The suspect then exited the vehicle and ran down Del Mar Avenue, where an officer saw him run onto the 2500 block of Melville Drive, enter the Rubio Wash and then run into a rear yard in the 1500 block of Rubio Drive, Wilson said.

Officers set up a containment perimeter to search for the suspect, who was later seen running from yard to yard in the rear of residences in the 1500 block of Rubio Drive. A police helicopter unit saw the suspect enter a detached garage at a residence and a K-9 unit was dispatched to search the rear yard and found the suspect trying to hide. The suspect then jumped out of a garage window and ran away again, police said.

After a short foot pursuit, officers captured the suspect in the 1400 block of Del Mar Avenue, Wilson said.

The suspect was later taken to a hospital and subsequently booked on burglary, evading police, hit and run and stolen vehicle charges.

Various departments assisted in the pursuit and investigation, including drone operator officers from the Alhambra Police Department, Pasadena Police Department helicopter and K9 officers, and the South Pasadena and San Gabriel Police departments assisted in the pursuit and investigation.

Outside agencies were requested for assistance in the pursuit and investigation of the suspect, including the Alhambra Police Department drone operator officers, Pasadena Police Department helicopter and K9 officers, and South Pasadena and San Gabriel Police Department officers.
