San Marino City Website, Email Get Official Reboot

San Marino is moving to change its website and email addresses from “.org” to “.gov” to comply with the Assembly Bill 1637, which requires local government entities to obtain a “.gov” domain.

Though there is no specific date for the official switch to the new domain, the city is targeting the end of January.

Mayor Steven Huang said he encourages the shift to “.gov” in his recent State of the City address, where he explained that the domain will provide enhanced security for the city.

“Government websites often have robust security measures in place to protect sensitive information and ensure the integrity of data,” said the mayor, who noted that encryption, secure servers and adherence to stringent cyber security standards to protect the public are all added benefits.

He also said “.gov” domain brings their site and email communications official recognition as a government entity, “distinguishing our website from unofficial or potentially unreliable sources.”

“This recognition can be crucial for disseminating accurate and trustworthy information,” Huang added.

When the new domain goes into effect, everything with a “.org” will redirect behind the scenes to the city’s new web links and email addresses.
